dc.description.abstractThe thesis examines the role of transportation in business logistics Management in Nigeria, with special emphasis on the Nigerian Tobacco Company PLC (NTC) Zaria. The result of the study is presented in five Chapters. Chapter one gives an insight into the necessary of Business Logistics Management (BLM),the impact of transportation on the economy and went on to state the problem that necessitated the study, its scope and limitation. The research methodology and the definition of technical terms is also treated. Chapter two reviewed related literature in which the historical development of NTC PLC is discussed. The functional areas of the Company, its importance, tobacco farming and its handling process, business logistics activities organizational structure among others are discussed. Analysis of Data and Information is done in chapter four. Trade-off, Total Cost Concept, Location of facilities, Multimedia transportation and Carrier selection decision are covered. Finally, findings are enumerated and discussed in chapter five, some of they are; Nigerian firms (NTC) embraces the trade-off concept, accepts and practice the total cost concept, transportation no longer determines the location of manufacturing facilities, it however, does on finished products, the Company embraces multi-modalism. Relevant recommendations for improvement are proffered and summary and conclusion drawn. The general conclusion of the study is that Nigerian firms (NTC) have embraced BLM as a Management tool with transportation as the focal point.en_US
