Abstract
Poverty is currently one of the most serious problems in Nigeria, the poverty level in Nigeria contradict the immense wealth/resources of this Country such as Human, Agricultural, Petroleum, gas and Solid Mineral to the Nigeria Government at all levels. It is evident that poverty scourge has assumed an unprecedented upsurge in Chikun Local Government Area. Our concern is to identify means of stimulating economic growth through engagement of the youth in semi-skilled and unskilled labour. The method of data analysis used in this study involves descriptive statistical techniques such as simple percentage and tabulation, which were used to analyze the data comprehensively. It is undoubtedly known, that government core poverty alleviation institutions have little or no impact on the people (youth). Some apparent reasons for the failure of previous programmes of government include; multiplicity of implementing agencies which allows for gross managerial inefficiency. Therefore, Government should provide conducive environment and extends infrastructure / social amenities such as good roads, pipe born water, electricity and so on, for the programme to achieve its meaningful objective of reducing poverty and improving the living standard of the citizenry
