dc.description.abstractAgriculture has since been the leading non-oil sector of Nigeria's economy, with production over-whelmingly by small peasant farmers using traditional and manual - energy sapping technology. The Bauchi State Agricultural Development Programme, BSADP, was designed to increase farm productivity, incomes and standard of living of the rural people in the state by providing a range of farm support services in association with infrastructural modifications. The main objectives of the BSADP was to assist the farmer in the areas of land development and farming, farmer education for the effective dissemination of improved farming techniques and practices. Others include the improvement and establishment of irrigation dams, fisheries and the provision of essential farm inputs. The BSADP, was based on an expanded enclave project at Gombe which proved successful. There are now about eleven (11) ADPS throughout the country. The BSADP was being organised and administered through four zones: Eastern, Western, Northern and Central zones. With the activities of the BSADP, Financing agencies have a vital role to play as credit is an important element in any integrative package of rural development efforts.
