dc.description.abstract | meant for family chewing. But later, there was development whereby cane can be refined into sugar crystals. This was first done in Persia about A.D. 500, later the Arabian influence established the art of refining sugar in Egypt, and since then, there has been development of sugar industry world over. The history of sugar industry in Nigeria has little in record owing to the fact that it has very short life span. Sugar-cane which is the only source of sugar in Nigeria, was introduced to the country in the 19th century during the slave trade, and it was just in the early 2 0th century that sugar industry developed in the country. Since then, there has been a number of cane plantations, which are more than the number/capacities of sugar factories in the country. Meanwhile, the waste or the fibre from the cane (Bagasse) is used in the boiler house as fuel and the fire safety controls and design considerations are also looked into in details. | en_US |
