The study examined the factors surrounding small – scale enterprises in the metropolitan area of Katsina State. In order to facilitate the study, data were collected from both primary and secondary sources within the area under study. This data were analyzed using tabular form and percentages so as to allow serious analysis. Major findings include the yawning gap in gender representation and the lack of relevant educational background for both the owners and the employees. Recommendations to tackle the problems include the introduction of policies by the state government that could serve as incentives to the female half of the population. Also that tertiary institutions be involved in the provisions of training for budding entrepreneurs in the stateen_US
