Abstract
This research is on the Management of Transport Services. A Case
Study of Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC).
Chapter one shows the introduction which consists of the objectives of
the study, significance of the study, statement of the problem, scope of the
study and the definitions of the terms used in the research.
The second chapter is the literature review on the introduction, the
theoretical framework, modern transportation service in Nigeria, its modes,
characteristics and the importance of transport service in Nigeria were also
discussed.
Also Management was defined, the functions, importance and
management of transport service in Nigeria were also discussed.
The historical background of the Nigerian Railway Corporation was
discussed. The purpose of the Corporation and their duties which are defined
in the Rail Act of 1955 was also discussed.
The different structures in the corporation were looked into and
discussed, how they are managed and the organisational chart of NRC was
shown.
The performance and management of the corporation was discussed,"
the performance in the area of the passengers carried, freight carried, the
revenue earned, the deficit, budget and profit made by the organisation were
looked into also.
But despite the financial position of the organisation, there is still the
problem of management among other problems the Corporation is facing, and
which lead to the opinion of the people that the organisation is not satisfying
the people/society the way it should satisfy them.
Various solutions are recommended in the research work on how to
solve the problems facing the organisation, in which one of the solution is that
the management should first introduce discipline into the organisation, to see
that their maximum performance in their work in which are given in their work
and which can be done by paying the salaries of the workers so that they can
'be motivated to perform well for the improvement of the Corporation.
