Four genotypes of upland rice with diverse background have been hybridized and evaluated in a Nested design with three replications in the wet seasons of 2004 and 2005.the experiment was carried out to estimate genetic analysis of quantitative traits and heritability of sonic agronomic traits of yield and yield components. Results indicated significant difference between the four parents with respect to days to 50% glowering, plant height, 2100 grain-weight, number of tillers, grain width, ear weight and yield. High heterosis values were obtained with number of tillers (78%) and yield (40%). This indicated high degree of heterozigosity of parents. Significant scaling test was observed for number of tillers suggesting dominance x dominance of gene at interaction with non-allelic gene interaction effect. Strongest positive correlation coefficients were obtained between grain length and either number of tillers (r = 0.54), or panicle weight (r = 0.53), yield and either 100 grain-weight (r = 0.64) or number of tillers. Similar result was observed between flag leaf length and panicle weight. Yield and panicle weight, yield and 100-grain-weight exhibited strongest correlation. High heritability was observed for all the traits in Yar rumji x Wab 35-1-FxF2 generation. Yield exhibited high heritability in all F2 generation. All the significant characters could lead to efficient selection of rice crop.en_US
