Abstract
ABSTRACT Human survival is greatly anchored on the production and/or consumption of three basic items, namely: FOOD, SHELTER AND CLOTHING. These requires man's practical effort in realising such basic needs. This man is pre-occupied with the task of exploring and exploiting his natural environment in order to obtain necessary resources to be transformed through the process of production into material use. During the course of my study, it was found out that most Nigerian Markets are characterized by the problems of lack of proper Maintenance, as a primary problem, while other problems such as congestion, rowdiness, poor sanitary facilities e.t.c are secondary to it. This report, not only identified these various problems but also attempted to offer a viable and lasting solutions to them; with particular reference to Owode Market. In conclusion, the thesis made suggestions and recommendations, that if followed would help the Government, Architects, planners and various organisations to up grade the standard of traditional markets within the country.
