Abstract
The purpose of the research was to investigate the types of
communication system used, the decision-making process also used
and the relationship between communication systems used and their
influence on effective decision-making process in the three military
secondary schools in Oyo State. To this end, seven hypotheses were
formulated and tested using an eighteen item structured
questionnaire as an instrument for data gathering. The instrument
was administered on 589 respondents randomly sampled from three
groups (soldiers, civilian staff and senior students) in the three
military schools. A Chi-square (X2) and correlation coefficient (r)
statistical analysis of the responses show, among other things, that
significant differences existed in the opinions of the three categories
of respondents with regard to: the communication systems used; the
hierarchy of information flow; decision-making process in terms of
appointments and recruitment, admission of students and daily
administration of the schools. There was significant relationship
between communication systems used, and effective decision-making
process. It was recommended, among other things, that modern
system of communication as well as information storage and retrieval
should be provided in the military secondary schools in Oyo State.
