Abstract
The purpose of this experimental research was to ascertain the effect of video instructional media on the academic performance of senior secondary school students in the field of Christian Religious Studies. The study was carried out on 240 students in government co-educational secondary schools in Kaduna state. Student performance test, consisting of 13 questions was used as the instrument for data collection. Mean scores were used to answer the research questions while two sample t-test was used to test four null hypotheses. One of the hypotheses was rejected while the other three were accepted:(1) The use of video as an instructional media significantly improved the academic performance of students who were exposed to it in the teaching of Christian Religious Studies, (2) There is no significant difference in the impact of the use of video as an instructional media in teaching Christian Religious Studies between urban and rural students, (3) Male and female do not differ significantly in their academic performances resulting from the use of video as an instructional media in teaching Christian Religious Studies, (4) Ages of students do not have impact of the benefits derived from the use of video as an instructional media in teaching Christian Religious Studies in senior secondary schools of Kaduna State. Consequently, it is recommended that: (a) Teaching and learning should be enhanced through the provision of relevant video materials in secondary schools, (b) Concerted efforts should be made by governments to bridge the gap between students of urban schools and those of rural schools by ensuring that equal learning experiences are given to both, (c) Female students should always be encouraged to see themselves as equals to the males, (d) Students of secondary school ages 15 to 25 should not see their variation in ages as a factor that warrants good academic performance or the lack of it.
