Abstract
Two field experiments were conducted during the wet season (June - October, 1906) and the dry season (January - May, 1907) at Samaru in the northern guinea savanna ecological zone of Nigeria to study the effect of growth regulators Gibberellic (GA3) and Indole Acetic acid (IAA) and Kinetin (K) and their combinations at 300, GOD, 900 pprn on growth and yield of onions (Allium cepa L.). The growth regulators were more effective in the wet season thnn in the dry season. The treatment of Gibberellic acid and kinetin at 600 ppm was the most effective combination showing significant effects on the total fresh weight and bulb fresh weight. In the dry season, Gibberellic acid, at 600 ppm hod the highest effect on the total fresh weight, bulb and leaf fresh weight and bulb diameter. Kinetin (K) had an inhibitory effect at (900 ppm) higher concentrations while Indole Acetic Acid (IAA) hnri a stimulatory effect at the same level. IAA had no effect at low concentrations (300 ppm).
