Abstract
Training is a systematic process by which individuals
knowledge, behaviour, attitude and skills are developed towards
executing specific functions or jobs. Thus training is a
developmental learning process. Training centre as an educational
institution should thus provide an environment such as would be
conducive for learning process.
The first instinct of an architect when he is to design
a building is to enquire into its purpose. In designing
buildings concerned with complicated manufacturing machines, such
as school of engineering where the aim is to educate and train
people not for one factory, but many, the purpose of the
building is an extremely complex one. No other educational
building possibly, no other type of building has the same
degree of complexity. The architect therefore, needs to
become sufficiently acquainted with what is going on in these
schools to enable him provide suitable spaces and conditions
for the people who are to use them.
This thesis is an attempt by the author towards achieving
effective integration of physical facilities needed for the
training of practically oriented, innovative and immaginative
engineers in one of our new Polytechnics. The thesis is also
an architectural contribution on the part of the author, to
indigenous technological advancement in Nigeria
