Abstract
This study assessed the problem of Electrical Energy supply within Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (Main Campus) and suggested ways of solving the problem of inadequacy of power supply. Reduction of peak demand by load shedding method was used which preserves critical loads or avoids total shutdown due to unforeseen loss of power sources and preserving system stability during sudden loss of power. The concept of load management, load curves and energy auditing processes were reviewed. The data for load/energy consumption was obtained from bulk metering unit 11KV substation of the university, the monthly and yearly peak demands were compiled using the formula for peak demand with result giving in MVA (Mega-Volt-Ampere). Graphs of Maximum demand were plotted against time under consideration and interpretation was made based on the graphs, with useful suggestions. Graph was plotted to show scheme of optimization based on load shedding. Bar charts were used in representing the energy management scheme by load shedding which pictorially shows comparison between electrical energy consumption on normal profile and scheme for optimization. It was discovered from the result of annual load curve that, more power is consumed during the heat period than cold period, due to cooling loads.
