Abstract
The major deficiency in our nation’s school system is the poor implementation of the curriculum. This has been manifesting in the poor performance of students in public examinations which predispose them to indulge in examination malpractices. There cannot be any stronger case for a more effective monitoring and supervision of our school systems. Total quality management is about improvement. It therefore has much to offer schools in that it stresses a relentless hunt for ways to improve quality. It offers an holistic approach which has the potential to enhance outcomes and reduce costs. Disturbingly, a major finding of this study revealed the absence of TQM program and TQM-related instructional attributes in schools. The stakes involved in education are enormous, making it imperative for educators to provide as good an education as possible. If public educational administrators and teachers take to heart the essentials of the TQM philosophy and apply them creatively to supervisions and teaching, they can not only positively influence the outcomes of their students, but also their own.
