dc.description.abstractThe study investigated the social and emotional consequences experienced by women living with HIV/AIDS in Kaduna metropolis. The ex-post factor survey method with stratified random sampling technique was used in the collection of the data. Three hundred and fifty one women living with the disease within Kaduna metropolis were sampled for the study. Among the variables investigated are: social stigma, social discrimination, social rejection and emotional consequences of living with the disease by the women. t-test, Analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to identify significant differences between groups. The result of the data analysis revealed among others that marital status, age, educational level and occupation of women are significant factor in the social and emotional consequences they experience as a result of living with HIV/AIDS in the metropolis. The women who were not married tended to suffer from social rejection because of the way the society regards victim of the disease. Women who were above forty years suffered more than those below 40yrs from the social and emotional consequences. Of the social consequences, social Stigma was ranked the highest by the victims. Based on these findings, it was recommended among others that there should be increased enlightenment campaign by both NGOs and concerned Government agencies and infected individuals should cooperate and form associations in their different locations towards encouraging and supporting one anotheren_US
