Abstract
The most important and valuable assets in any organisation are
its human resources. The recruitment and training of those human
resources is imperative. NICON Insurance Corporation which is fully
owned by the federal government of Nigeria is one of the leading
insurance companies not only in Nigeria but in Africa as a whole.
The research work takes a critical assessment of the process of
recruitment and training in NICON insurance corporation. It consists of
five chapters, chapter one comprises of general introduction. Chapter
two is an indepth of conceptual framework and related literature review.
Chapter three is an overview of data collected; for primary data, the use
of questionnaires was employed where two types were designed – one
for management staff and the other for senior/other staff. Personal
interviews were conducted and the use of personal observation to
supplement responses gathered. For secondary data, text books,
management journals and periodicals whose sources came mainly from
the use of library. Chapter four contains general evaluation of data
collection and analyses of questionnaires. The total number of
responses recorded was 80 out of 121. These figures were recorded in
raw scores and then converted into percentages to enhance clarity and
ease the problems of hypothesis testing where it was concluded using
chi-square that NICON recruits quality personnel and adequately trains
it employees. Some among the findings in this research include non
compliance of federal character, stagnation and lack of enough training
schools. Chapter five contains summary, conclusion and
recommendations.
Having critically assessed the process of recruitment and training
in NICON insurance corporation, the researcher recommended among
others, compliance of federal character in the process of recruitment,
creating rooms for promotion and provision of more training schools.
