dc.description.abstractABSTRACT The overwhelming majority of the people in our society are unaware that islam has a complete economic system. The few that are aware are oblivion of the objective of business transactions and investment in Islam. This partially explains the reason why we experience the economic exploitation that is prevalent in our society of today. A number of factors have contributed in the unprecedented collapse of many business organisations in Nigeria. These include cumulative effect of usury on many debtor nations, increasing disparities at different levels and the exploitation of the poor and afflicted by the rich and powerful. Since the basis of all actions in Islam is the sharia, the study has discussed the nature, sources and modus operandi of business transactions and investments in the light of Sharia. The study also reviews the western investment concepts and their inherent weaknesses that are usually exploited by capitalists in enslaving the masses. Of particular significance is the theory of interest that over protects the capitalist and exposes the borrowers to all sorts of risks. The fact that only few nations of the world today are not debt-ridden conveys a lot of messages about the present system of Banking and Finance. The study further attempts to expose the various options that are available when it comes to investment and the logistics involved. These options include Mudaraba and Musharaka. viien_US
