dc.description.abstract | This study examines the impact of the Kaduna Agricultural Development Project (KADP) on agricultural productivity and general welfare of the people of Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State in the period, 1989-2014. The research is predicated on the problem of low productivity and high poverty level which is synonymous with rural Nigerian societies. This research therefore investigates how KADP has performed in the area of study in enhancing farmer’s productivity. Three survey instruments were used to collect the primary data and the secondary data was collected using documentary method. The data was quantitatively and qualitatively presented and analysed through triangulation method. The incremental theory was adopted as a theoretical framework. Its adoption is informed by the incremental nature of agricultural policies in Nigeria. This research therefore adopted the theory to analyse KADP as a public policy which is geared towards addressing certain areas of societal problem which is agricultural productivity and rural welfare. The study established that KADP main area of impact on the community is in the area of fertilizer distribution, agricultural extension services and loan to farmers. The research also found that the project has had some impact on the income level of the rural farmers even though it has not performed optimally. The research also found out that the major challenges of the rural farmers was still in the area of low prices of farm products, funds and inadequate modern agricultural inputs. | en_US |
