dc.description.abstractThe Collapse of the States in Hausaland after 1804, leadir he emergence of Caliphate with Federal System of administratis appeared to be due to the direct, influence of uLama- The political order based on Shari and moral codes of Islam was also part of the energetic work of the Ulama. equently, the vast and radical transformation of the political institutions and social relationship in the State were linked with the ollective and individual of Ulama headed by Shaikh Uthman Dan Fodio. The theme of this study is the role of these ulama in the Sokoto Caliphate, between the years 1804 and 1837 C.E. An attempt has been made to find out some significant roles played by the body of Ulama both as a collective body and as individuals in relations to the development and aliphate within the period of1804 C..E. in carring out this work, some relevant written duments and published works were used for data COllection.
