Abstract
The study was designed to analyses Teachers and Students opinion on the Effect of Social
Studies Education in Curbing Indiscipline among Junior Secondary Schools in Katsina State.
The study was guided by three objectives, three research questions, and three null hypotheses.
The population of the study covers JSS teachers and students in Katsina state. Three hundred and
eighty four (384) samples of both JSS teachers and students were used for the study. They were
randomly selected using purposive sampling technique from twelve (12) Local Government
Areas of Katsina North Senatorial Zone. Survey research method was used in carrying out the
research. The t-test statistical tool was used to test the three hypotheses at alpha of 0.05 level of
significant. The research instrument used was a questionnaire containing 30 items designed by
the researcher. The questionnaire was Tagged Teachers and Students Perception on Curbing
Indiscipline Questionnaire (TSPOCIQ) which was validated and pilot-tested with reliability
coefficient of 0.75. The findings of the study reveals that, significant difference existed between
the opinion of teachers and students on the effect of social studies in curbing indiscipline in
Secondary schools in Katsina state. It was also found that differences exist between opinion of
male and female teachers on the effect of social studies in curbing indiscipline in secondary
schools in Katsina state. Thus, the researcher recommended that; there is a need for proper
guidance and counseling services in the schools to assist in advising students on the importance
of moral discipline, school authorities should provide relevant materials and facilities needed for
effective teaching of social studies, this will enable the students and teachers to develop interest
and desire for teaching and learning the subject, professional organization such as SOSCEAN
should organize inter-school debates, workshops, and seminars to sensitize students on the
importance of learning social studies as a means of inculcating good behavior in the students and
social studies teachers should set good examples by demonstrating acceptable behaviours in and
outside the school.
