dc.description.abstractThe work examines the relationship between students’ performance in English and selected science subjects in Colleges of Education. The population is two hundred level Biology, Chemistry and Physics students in Colleges of Education in the six geopolitical areas of Nigeria. The research instrument was an academic record analysis (ARA) of the students’ second year results in Biology, Chemistry and Physics as well as their general studies results in English language in both first and second semester using grade point average scores. The research discovered that performance in Biology has more relationship with English language than Chemistry and Physics. The work made some recommendations among which are content teachers of Biology, Chemistry and Physics students in Colleges of Education are expected to assist the students to focus on study of both their content areas and English language. The science teachers can assist by correcting or pointing out the English language errors in Biology, Chemistry and Physics written works of the students. The method adopted for the work is descriptive statistics using mean to answer the research question. While, inferential statistics by spearman correlation is used for testing the hypotheses. The Biology, Chemistry and Physics lecturers are expected to assign to students tasks that have direct relevance to their field of study to enable them exercise their skills of comprehension, analysis, application and synthesis bearing in mind cognitive academic language proficiency.en_US
