Abstract
The increase in global environmental awareness and the campaign for sustainable economic development is redirecting the attention of firms towards environmental sensitivity. Multinational oil companies in Nigeria extract a large amount of the world’s energy but treat the indigenous resident with neglect as claimed by oil producing communities. While on the other hand, the oil companies are claiming to be discharging their environmental responsibility. Therefore, the study examines the impact of environmental responsibility on the performance of quoted Nigerian oil companies. Correlational research design is adopted using multiple regression as tool of analysis for the study. The result reveals that environmental responsibility has significant impact on the performance of quoted oil companies in Nigeria. It is therefore recommended that the management of oil companies should increase charitable contribution among others to their host community
