Abstract
Financing agricultural projects has been extremely difficult in Nigeria. Most banks particularly commercial banks have shown a, persistent reluctance to give financial assistance ;to farmers for numerous reasons. Tho various governments of Nigeria have long recognized the fact that the absence of a national agricultural credit institution is one of the major impediments to agricultural developing in the country. The Nigerian Agricultural and Cooperative Bank Limited (N.A.C.B.) was thus established in 1973 to provide the much needed finance to farmers in order to increase their production. . This study attempts to appraise the performance of the N.A.C.B. in relation to its stated objectives. It attempts to identify the problems faced by the institution in providing agricultural loans to farmers and the problems faced by farmers in obtaining loans from the N.A.C.B. It also attempts to suggest solutions where possible to the problems identified as being encountered by both the learners and the institution.
