T: In many parts of the world, especially in the most developed economies of the world, there are various ways and means of making comparative analysis to determine the level of the development of a particular economy, and other aspects of business and industries. The most important way or means is the use of financial ratios. This though important is not found available in Nigeria we rely mostly on foreign ratios. It is against this background that the thesis attempts to embark on intensive study of financial organisations for the development of truly Nigerian ratios. The thesis explored whether it is possible to develop such ratios in the country and whether there is the need for developing indigenous ratios. It also tries to answer whether the ratios developed will differ from foreign ones and why they differ and if they tally, why. To achieve the aim of this thesis the financial statement of 10 companies across 5 industrial groupings of the Nigeria Stock Exchange were used to compute 12 types of ratios. The industries selected are Automobile & Tyre, Breweries, Construction, Chemical & Paints and Household & Industrial Products industries. The ratios computed are then compared with the Dun & Bradstreet ratios and the results analysed. In the light of that, the thesis is of the view that there is the need to develop Nigerian ratios and that internal factors can make ratios differ.en_US
