dc.description.abstract | This thesis was motivated by the sensing of inadequcies in all ramifications of building services installations in small hotels around the country. The traditional role of a hotel in the service of a community seems to be crumbling like a pack of cards under the weight of afflictions brought about by ignorance and incapacity of hotel developers and managers. In the liqht of the foregoing this work was designed to reestablish the concept on which the hotel industry is built, which is the provision of comfort in all it's relevant ramifications to all categories of hotel users, to measure the status of building services installations in elected small hotels in Kaduna by means of a survey, and bo present a design guide for a small hotel. The hotel on which the excercise is based is a 45-bedroom hypothetical hotel, in Kaduna. The building services haven been identified as a very relevant instrument towards the provision of comfort in hotels has not been well considered in many hotel developments as the result of the survey indicated. The first chapter presents the background to this work the need for it and the scope, while the second chapter deals with historical aspects of hotel development and hotel classification. The third chapter concerns itself with the survey which has been touched upon above. The methodology of the survey and the analysis of data gathered from this survey along with relevant recommendations are presented here. Chapter four highlights some useful concepts towards the design of engineering services in buildings. Subsequent chapters set out the fundamental principles and regulations of statutory bodies along which Lnes the various components of the building services system could be successfully designed. These component; include: (a) Cold and Hot water services (b) Electrical Installations and allied serrvices. | en_US |
