dc.description.abstract | This study was designed to evaluate the programme of Social Studies in Pre-Primary Schools' Curriculum in some selected local governments of Osun State. To achieve this end a set of questionnaire was designed for nursery school teachers. The questionnaire were administered in six local governments in Osun State. Out of 194 questionnaire administered only 175 were returned. The received responses were statistically analyzed to answer the research questions. The data analysis revealed the followings: i) There is significant difference between the objectives of social studies contained in the pre-primary school curriculum in Osun State Capital and those in the urban centers, ii) There is significant difference between the instructional materials used in teaching social studies in the state capital and those of the urban centers, iii) There is significant difference between the instructional techniques used in teaching social studies in the state capital nursery schools and those of the urban centers, iv) There is no significant difference between Social Studies evaluation techniques used in the state capital and those of the urban centers. Recommendations (1) Designing a uniform curriculum for nursery schools in Nigeria. (2) Social Studies should be included on the nursery schools time table. (3) Social Studies content in the nursery schools' curriculum should be spelt out. (4) Proprietors and proprietress should employ and retain qualified and experienced teachers. (5) Teachers should be encouraged to attend workshops and seminars on Social Studies. (6) There should be provision for Social Studies instructional materials in the nursery schools. (7) Parents should be enlightened on the level of what the children could achieve at nursery school level. | en_US |
