dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study was to find out the redundancy and it' s Incidence in the Science and humanities collections of the library of college of Education Akwanga. The documentary and observation Research methods were adopted for conducting the study. The documentary observation and questionnaire were the instruments used to collect data. Data was analysed using percentages, tables and the chi square. The findings revealed that. (1) The lecturers and students used the library either occasionally or at least daily. (2) Books constitute the major source of information in the library. (3) Most of the lecturers and students were not involved in the selection of information resources to be acquired into the library. (4) The science collections (45.16%) were more redundant than the humanities (37.97%) with Geography and Mathematics being the most redundant of them. (5) Non-involvement in selection process, lack of information on availability of information resources and lack of recently published materials were the major reasons for redundancy. (6) Lecturers and students should be adequately informed of the availability of materials in the library by displaying recently acquired information resources. (7) Only recently published information resources should be acquired into the library so as to reduce or eliminate redundancy of the library collection. It is concluded that the collection is not qualitative enough for proper learning, research and teaching | en_US |
