dc.description.abstractThis research work was undertaken to investigate the effect of proofreading and editing skills on students‟ performance in typewriting in tertiary institutions of learning. The study was intended to determine the effect of proofreading and editing on students performance. In order to achieve this, an experimental study was carried out using 60 students from Federal College of Education, Zaria. Quasi-experimental was used with pre-test, post-test and control groups which were randomized. The study was conducted within four weeks. The mean, standard deviation was used to analyze the data collected, while student t-test was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The results of the analysis showed that: (a) there is significant effect in the mean scores of students in proofreading and editing skills, female students had performance that were significant compared with that of their male counterparts. The study concluded that proofreading and editing skills have positive effects on the performance of students in typewriting. Students, who develop the habit of proofreading and editing their work at the time they were in training, would be better equipped for the world of work. Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended that: proofreading and editing should be incorporated in the typewriting syllabus of the tertiary institution where secretaries and business education teachers are trained, and typewriting teachers should ensure that students acquire the skills of proofreading and editing by constant evaluation of their work.en_US
