Abstract
A B S T R A C T
The primary aim of the study was to find out how
job performance can be improved through performance
appraisal.
The study was prompted by the observation that
performance appraisals in Keffi Local Government Council
were conducted for promotion purposes only. This
observation was based on the fact that only l e t t e rs
of promotions were released after the appraisal exercises.
Staff were not corrected or told specifically how to
improve their performances on their jobs.
Interviews and two sets of questionnaires formed the
main tools for the research.
Results of the study showed that job performance in
Keffi Local Government Council can be improved through
performance appraisal by giving employees feedback on
t h e i r performances, indentifying employees weaknesses
on their jobs and giving them appropriate training,
rewarding good performance and so on.
