Abstract
From time immemorial textiles have been produeed all over the world primarily (as wears) to cover man's nudity as a natural phenomenon, and to protect the body against harsh weather and other external aggressions such as insect bites etc. Today, the purpose of textile manufacture has shifted greatly from covering the body to suitability for comfort, style, fashion, arts, social stratification and other specialised uses. This study has investigated the market acceptability of made-in-Nigeria Textile products of selected textile companies. Parameters such as quality (design, aesthetic appeal, handle, durability etc), prices, distribution and promotional efforts to market the products formed the bases for the investigation. Information related to these parameters were sou reed from observation, questionnaires and interviews of randomly selected textile staff, distributors, retailers and consumers of the products. The data were carefully examined and analysed. The outcome of the findings revealed that made-in-Nigeria Textile products are only of moderate quality as against the expected high quality (measure of the international quality Assurance) which is what makes textiles acceptable all over the world. This has consequently led to low market acceptance of the products. Solutions to this problems have been highlighted. Suggestions and recommendations aimed at enhancing the acceptability of locally produced textiles have been made and conclusion of the entire study drawn.
