dc.description.abstractIn spite of many attempt by government at all levels to provide basic educational opportunity for all children of school-age irrespective of gender, physical condition, geographical location, or socio-economic status of parent, there remain inequalities in access to basic education in Nigeria. The basic education sector continued to face the challenge of shortage of qualified teachers. Secondary data were used to augment Questionnaire; an instrument of primary data collection. Data collected were analyzed using tables, percentages; content analysis and chisquare test. The study reveals a progressive increase in the rate of enrolment; which implies that more school-age children were enroll; and an increase in the number of qualified teachers. This study recommends that, state and local governments build more classrooms to cater for the increasing number of prospective school-age pupils (students). The cordial institutional collaboration that exists between UBE, NTI, and MDGs office on capacity buildings for teachers should be sustained. The ongoing reform programme tagged "every child counts " should also be given the necessary support by all stakeholders in the education sector. viien_US
