The aim of t h i s study was to experiment with polychrome r e l i e f panels in wood. A t o t a l of f i f t e en p r o j e c t s (Plates I-XV) were executed using plywood as a support. The m a t e r i a l s used were s e n s i t i v e l y chosen; they were varied and diverse, ranging from gum-arabic r o n s e a l , colours (both o i l and local colours), broken m i r r o r s , glasses, chains among other t h i n g s. The objective in t h i s project was to explore t e x t u r a l q u a l i t i e s that is c h a r a c t e r i s t i c of r e l i e f s. As a s c u l p t o r , part of the objective in t h i s study was also to explore the aesthetic q u a l i t i e s of r e l i ef s c u l p t u r e . Among the findings of t h i s study was the a b i l i t y to "marry" colours to sculpture which was a major f e a t u r e of African t r a d i t i o n sculpture in the p a s t . Furthermore t h e study offered the opportunity of bringing together objects of diverse form and nature to achieve e x c i t i ng harmony in the process of these c r e a t i o n s. F i n a l l y the study has proved that the area of sculpture can be explored to almost any length. ven_US
