dc.description.abstractMany countries in Africa have experienced civil wars especially due to political turmoil. This has left so many dead and some helpless and hopeless. The Rwandan genocide is one of such civil crisis that has left a negative land mark on the lives of Rwandans. During the genocide, more than 800,000 Tutsis where killed in 100 days making it one of the worst of its kind in the continent of Africa. What then could be the fate of the survivors who now count their inestimable loss? This study entitled ŖGénocide et traumatisme dans l’univers romanesque de Veronique Tadjoŗis a literary study of four novels of Veronique Tadjo namely: L’Ombre d’Imana, Reine Pokou, Loin de mon père and Champs de bataille et d’amour. It examined the origin, manifestation and instruments of genocide and trauma. The positive and negative effects of genocide and trauma were also analysed through the selected novels. Using sociological, psychoanalytical, thematic as well as the ecocritical approaches, the study revealed what made the Rwandan genocide to remains the worst in Africa. Behaviours of traumatised victimes revealed that the negative effects of genocide outweigh the positive effects on the lives of victims. It also revealed that the aftermath of the genocide is unemployment, poverty and misery which have physically, emotionally and psychologically degraded victims. It concluded that war brings trauma on victims and can never help a country to develop economically, socially and politically, hence, the world should be aware of the dangers of genocide.en_US
