Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the existing school library resources in selected secondary schools in Nigeria, to utilize the findings to propose standards which should govern a secondary school, and to suggest means whereby these standards might be attained. The procedures included (1) reviewing of literature to show what is so far known about the conditions and services in the Nigerian school libraries and how the present study can lead to the improvement of school libraries; (2) developing and refining the inquiry form; (3) selection of schools and distribtion of the inquiry form; (4) on-site visits to some of the schools to check the reliability of responses; (5) organizing and analyzing the data for the purpose of presenting the findings and making recommendations.
