Abstract
ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to establish the impact of child labour on the behaviour of adolescents in Kaduna State, Nigeria. Four objectives were stated and four research questions were raised. The objectives were set for the study along with four research questions. Four hypotheses were also postulated for the study. A sample of 250 househelps and 250 employers of househelps was drawn from a population of 4,179 househelps and their employers. Questionnaire was used to obtain data for the study. Descriptive statistics of frequency, mean, standard Deviation along with Spearman Rho correlation test were employed to analyse the data. Results indicated that adolescent househelps are often treated as second class citizens. Most adolescents are also found to prefer living with their parents instead of living with their employers. Findings further showed that most adolescent househelps are sometimes abused physically, socially and emotionally. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others, that Non-Governmental agencies should intervene on behalf of adolescents who are abused by helping to prosecute their offenders no matter their status in the society. It was concluded that the behaviour of houeshelps are affected and the consequent impact on their behaviour also affected their overall social, emotional and mental behaviour of adolescent househelps.
