dc.description.abstract | This research work was conducted to assess the role of Jigawa state civil service in enhancing Development from 1999 – 2009. In collecting data for the study, both primary and secondary sources were explored. The secondary sources include books, journals, paper presentations, web sites, government documents. The primary source is the two set of questionnaires administered on Jigawa state civil servants and political office holders Also year 2002 and 2006 Core welfare indicators questionnaire (CWIQ)surveys was used to determine the level of development in the state. Yamane’s formula was used in determining the sample size and simple random sampling techniques was used in the selection of respondents. The respondents consist of both sexes aged from 16 – 60 years. The techniques adopted in the analysis of the data were percentages, averages, and Chi- Square statistical technique. The research found out that civil service in the study area played a significant role in enhancing development. However, it was further revealed that inefficiency, coupled with inadequate skilled manpower has negatively affected the performance of the civil service .The study recommended that Jigawa state civil service should have to undergo radical, structural, procedural and attitudinal changes if it has to serve as an efficient and effective instrument of positive change and progress in the state and; it is also recommended that employment of enough professionals and giving them regular and systematic training will equip the civil servants with the requisite skills and competencies. | en_US |
