Abstract
The growth of shopping activities in high density residential areas, specifically in Tudun-
Wada District of Kaduna Urban Area is more prominent along residential streets.
Shopping activities are more intensive in areas that are in close proximity to the Central
Business District. Other factors contributing to this intensive growth include socioeconomic
characteristics of the population. The role played by physical planing, local
administrative factors and climate.
Two proposals were made: the first proposal is to allow existing patterns to continue in
the absence of physical planning intervention. The second proposal embraces physical
planning intervention, while incoporating existing patterns and characteristics of
shopping activities in Tudun-Wada District.
