Abstract
School records are important but rarely kept well in many Secondary Schools and school
management boards; this made the creation of database for Secondary Schools difficult.
Since Zaria Education Zone was created, no research has been carried out to determine how
Secondary Schools members of staff fare, what facilities are in place and what are not, and a
host of other vital school requirements using Remote Sensing and Geographic Information
System (GIS) technique. The research questions were set to understand the categories of
facilities exist in the study area, characteristics of the geo-spatial facilities identified, and the
geo-referenced of locating Secondary School in the study area and how they are pattern
spatially. The objectives of the study were to identify the spatial facilities of Secondary
Schools in the study area, explore the characteristics of spatial facilities identified, establish
the geo-referenced of locating Secondary Schools in the study area and create a spatial
database of facilities in the study area. To achieve these, Digital Mapping, Global
Positioning System (GPS) Google Earth and some information from education board were
used to collect, analyse and create Database. The study covers Zaria, Parts of Sabon Gari,
Soba and Kudan Local Government Areas. The study found that, the schools were
overcrowded in Zaria and Sabon Gari LGA, but sparsely in Soba and Kudan LGA which
affect instructions and understanding. Most of the schools lack one facility or the other
except Alhuda Huda College and Barewa College. The schools were also categorized into
first, second and third generation based on their years of establishments. The study
recommended that more schools and/or classes need to be constructed in order to keep pace
with ever increasing school enrolments among other recommendations
