Abstract
The objective of the study was to determine the Influence of Personal
Secretaries’ Competence in Computer Troubleshooting on Accomplishment
of Office Tasks in North Central Nigeria. Relevant and related literatures by
different authors were reviewed. Survey research design was used to
conducted the study. Five specific objectives were sought among which are
to: determine the positive effect of competence in identifying computer fault
in accomplishment of office tasks, and to determine how fixing computer
fault influence accomplishment of office task; five research questions and
five hypotheses were formulated to provide a lead to achieving the specific
objectives. The population of the study included all the 288 personal
secretaries’ in the Federal Secretariats in the North Central. The entire
population was used as the sampled size. The instrument for data collection
was a structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, was used to analyze the
data collected, Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to
test null at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study among others
are: That identifying computer fault create confidence in handling office job,
and influences the prospect and position of personal secretaries’ in office data
processing and that the skills have direct effect on safe keeping of official
data in Federal Secretariats, in North-Central Nigeria and that the skill in
fixing computer fault creates self reliance in computer data processing and
help in safe keeping of official data, among secretaries in Federal Secretariats,
in North-Central Nigeria. The researcher made some recommendation among
which are: That personal secretaries’ in Federal Secretariats, in North-Central
Nigeria should be enrolled into in-service course on the computer
troubleshooting by their employers, to improve their skills in handling
modern machine, and that personal secretaries’ in Federal Secretariats in
North-Central Nigeria should adopt the idea of personal study to acquire more
knowledge, so as to be able to compete well in the 21st century office. This is
owing to the fact that, the skills in fixing computer fault creates self reliance
i.e. not depending on computer specialist to do virtually every minor repairs,
also that the position of the personal secretaries’ is secured and the
confidentiality of the office information is achieved.
