dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study is to identify media services rendered and to establish preservation and securiiy problems facincing the libraries under study. The problems investigated include: Human causes, temperature, insects, dirt and dust, fungus, light, theft, fire and water. The investigator used descriptive and comparative research methods to determine the similarities and differences in Preservation and Security of media materials in the libraries. The population covered the Libraries in Kaduna (Library Board of Kaduna State; Nigerian Institute for Trypanosomiasis Research; Nigerian Television Authority; National Teachers Institute and National Educational Technology Centre), Zaria (Kashim Ibrahim Library A.B.U; National Animal Production Research Institute; National Research Institute for Chemical Technology), Jos (University of Jos Library; National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies Kuru). Questionnaire was used as the major instrument for the study. Formal and informal interview and discussions with a number of visits were made. About fifty two questions were lorded with alternative answers to be selected. Descriptive statistics was used to explain the findings on Preservation and security of Media Materials in libraries under study. simple percentages, tables and graphic presentations were used to analyse the findings of the study. It was found out in the findings that photographs and television equipment were the commonest services rendered in libraries under study and also experienced problems affecting their life span and safety of the media.
