The canine perianal skin forms part of the region referred to as the perineum. Three types of glands, sebaceous, sweat, and hepatoid circumanal glands (HCGS) are present in the skin of this area. Not much is known about the micromorphology of the hepatoid circumanal gland, and yet this gland is a leading source of neoplasia in the canines. The aim is, therefore, as a start, to establish the micromorphology of this region. A total of 10 dogs, comprising of 5 puppies and 5 adults of both sexes and local breed were utilized for this study. The light microscopy revealed that the canine perianal skin was composed of the usual layers encountered in any normal skin. But the skin of this area had three types of glands the sebaceous, sweat and hepatoid circumanal glands. Both the sebaceous and the sweat glands revealed the normal components. The hepatoid circumanal gland was composed of polyhedral or polygonal non-vacuolated cells and were found in both sexes. These glands were ductless. There were usually two glands separated by a hair follicle. A gland was made of 20 lobules or more. The electron microscopy revealed that the HCG cells contained the usual organelles encountered in a normal cell. These cells had a high profile of smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER), mitochondria of differenten_US
