dc.description.abstractThe study evaluated the effects of preview, shortcuts, and fatigue in shorthand writing- This was achieved by looking far the correctly written outlines and correctly transcribed outlines. Two groups of shorthand writers were selected: the SO words a minute group and the 100 wards a minute group. There were 104 National Diploma (ND) II Secretarial Students in the first group and SS Higher National Diploma CHND) I Secretarial Students in the second group. These students were from Federal Polytechnic, Bida; Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin and The Polytechnic, IbadanT ne instruments used for collecting the data consisted of two identical shorthand passages of six minutes duration, one for each speed. After the dictation, typewritten transcription lasted for one hour. Data were analysed by the use of the statistic and ANGVA (Analysis of Variance) statistics. The hypotheses were rejected at 0.05 level of significance or less (P< 0.05) . The findings were: (i) The unfamiliar unpreviewed dictation is more difficult to write and transcribe than the familiar previewed dictation.en_US
