dc.description.abstractThis study examines the impact of employee performance appraisal on morale and performance of Katsina State Civil Servants. The study is no doubt inspired by the fact that there was a growing concern among the citizens of the State on the commitment of the civil servants to the over all development of the State. The State, being at its infant stage is very much in need of dedicated civil servants who will direct its affairs towards a position that befits the status of a state. One of such areas of great concern to the Katsina State Government and indeed a sizeable proportion of the people of the State is centered around the commitment of civil servants towards the development of the state. Hence, in an effort to tackle these problems, a number of factors have brought themselves to bear or have at one time or another been put in place to curb the problem of an alleged saying morale amongst the state workforce. While conducting this study, I number of issues that have to do with employee morale and productivity were examined with a view to coming up with something that could explain the said low morale among civil servants. The area, this study addresses itself to, that is employee performance appraisal is an area that management of the truism that scholars have shown so much interest in. This is because of the truism that no organization could' afford to disregard effective employee management and developmento The thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter dwells on the background of the study. It presents a statement of the problem, aim of the study, significance of the study, hypotheses, scope and limitation of the study and methodology. Chapter two contains literature review and the theoritical framework. The relevance of literature review to the study is also presented under the chapter. The structure and functions of the Katsina State Civil Service as well as the evolution of employee performance appraisal and its apparationalization in the Katsina State Civil Service are treated under chapter three. While chapter four focuses on the presentation of the data collected for the study and its analysis. In conclusion, chapter five presents conclusion, summary of major findings and recommendations.en_US
