Os all over the world have been recognized as part of the institutions that complement government activities in providing services to the people. For so many decades, the NGOs have been operating side by side with the Nigerian Government with a view to improve Human Development in country. Despite the tremendous efforts by both the NGOs and the Government, the level of human development in Bauchi and Gombe States is still low. The central focus of this study was to examine the role played by the NGOs in human development in Bauchi and Gombe States, Nigeria, between 2003 and 2014, with the special emphasis on reproductive health, access to education and income generation role of the selected NGOs. Being a survey research, data were generated from both primary and secondary sources with questionnaires and interviews as the instruments for generating the primary data, while the secondary data used in this study include; information regarding the various programmes and projects undertaken by the NGOs under study, official publications of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), National Planning Commission (NPC), United Nations Reports, and scholarly articles, text books, unpublished research materials, Websites and other related materials. The study revealed that, the NGOs under study rendered services in the areas of health, education and income generation and made significant improvement on human development in the study area. This research has therefore, recommends amongst others that, both government and people should be more cooperative to NGOs to enable them carryout more efficient and effective services, more enlightenment campaigns should be carried out by the NGOs to sensitize the public, particularly women on the need to embrace prenatal, antenatal and postnatal health care services being provided by both the NGOs and government, People should also be more committed to entrepreneurial skill so as to tap more from the NGOs that render servicesen_US
