Abstract
Nigeria got her independence 37 years ago. She witnessed
s e r i e s of changes in terms of social economic and p o l i t i c a l

t h e i r s o c i a l , economic and p o l i t i c a l r i g h t s and e x p e c t a t i o n s.
This awareness came as a r e s u l t of changes in government and
p e o p l e ' s p a r t i c i p a t i o n in p o l i t i c s which greatly c o n t r i b u t ed
to development and understanding of p o l i t i c a l i s s u e s.
In ordor to increase the l e v e l of p o l i t i c a l awareness and

p o l i t i c s is very important considering the emphasis placed on
t h e p o l i t i c a l awareness among Nigerian c i t i z e n s . It is also t he
contention of the researcher that p o l i t i c a l s o c i a l i z a t i o n should
commence at the grassroots l e v e l of the educational system.
This led t h e researcher to i n v e s t i g a t e p o l i t i c a l s o c i a l i z a t i o n of
