Abstract
ABSTRACT In order for Banks to achieve its set objectives and to enhance more productive and efficient performance, it must ascertain employee needs for training and development and also regular and constant training of these employees which will lead to continuous productivity and subsequent growth of the Bank. Instruments used in obtaining data necessary to accomplish this research was the use of questionnaires which were administered to the employees of the Bank. Three hypothesis were tested, the first was rejected while the other two were accepted. All data collected were analysed, findings to show that most employees of United Bank for Africa Pic. do not have training needs, since the bank has always catered for and scheduled their training and development programmes. Recommendations were given based in these findings, in order for employees of United Bank for Africa Pic to perform their jobs better and more efficiently, the Bank should first of all ascertain training and development needs of employees before undertaking any training and development programme. In conclusion, based on the findings obtained in this research, the management of the bank to some extent has provided good training and development programmes which has led to the achievements of some of its objectives.
