Abstract
Almajiri school system has been practiced in Nigeria as far back as the pre-colonial period and has been associated with different problems, various governments, donor agencies as well as other corporate bodies both national and international have made several attempts geared towards addressing these problems. This study appraised the Almajiri school system and analysed its implication to urban management. Data were generated through interviews, field surveys with Alarammas, pupils as well as the institutions involved. The study adopted cluster sampling of the area in which a sample of 250 respondents was drawn there by representing 12.5% of the total population. The study revealed that the implication of Almajiri school system is that of land use planning and management, provision of basic urban social services, sanitary issues and poor housing conditions. Base on the finding of the study it is recommended that the environmental quality should be improved, spatial distribution pattern should be regulated, economic and socio cultural activities should be closely monitored and addressed to achieve a sustainable urban management and development.
