dc.description.abstract | Peaceful coexistence is the backbone of development of any nation or society. The continuous breach of this valuable phenomenon – peace in the Nigerian Nation State would not augur well for the desired and much needed development. Various factors causes the breach of peace among these are political, economic, social and religious factors. The list is however, not exhaustive as there are several and much more. Religious intolerance, fanaticism and bigotry is a major factor that causes turmoil and clashes in Nigeria and several other parts of the world. No religion, however, preaches violence among it’s adherents or against the followers of other religions. The problem, therefore, is not religion itself but the misunderstanding of it’s cardinal principles and interpretation. Among Muslims in the country, there are several misunderstanding, division creeds and ideologies that a times had leads to violent crises among themselves or with the followers of other religions. The Sokoto Sultanate Council in conjunction with other Islamic bodies is proposing a centre that will foster unity among the various Islamic groups in the country. This will create the much needed peace for development. The centre would focus in bringing together the various Islamic organizations in the country for dialogue through conferences and seminars. The centre would also train students to carry out this function in different parts of the country. Islamic architectural features are intended to be used in the design of the centre. As the centre is located in Sokoto, Hausa traditional architectural elements would also be incorporated to build with the environment. | en_US |
