Abstract
Industrialization is a major process for economic development of
any nation. The present economic situation has prompted the
Federal government to seek for ways of diversifying the economic
base, hence the emphasis on industrialization and agricultural
development.
A significant challenge confronting engineers, scientists and
environmentalist in developing countries is the search for
appropriate solutions to the collection, treatment, and disposal or
reuse of domestic waste. Much of this waste ends up littering road
sides, floating in lakes, and streams and collecting in ugly dumps.
The magnitude of the problem demands a complex organizational
set up to solve the problem.
Waste recycling helps in reducing the waste by turning the waste
materials into new useful materials. Organic matter which forms
about 70% of the refuse can be processed into compost (organic
fertilizer).
The role of the architect here is to design a factory house the
composting process.
This proposed factory is expected to produce about 60,000 tones of
compost fertilizer annually and will offer for sale its salvageable like
scrap metals, glass, plastics, polythene bags and so on.
Experience shows that the blending of good planning and
maintenance, efficient construction and pleasant appearance, when
applied to industrial buildings does produce happier and healthier
working environment for the workers.
A major challenge facing composting industries is maintenance
problem. The main causative factors of maintenance problems in
industries range from poor design details, services, poor
construction materials to poor workmanship. However, evidence has
shown that it is at the design stage that the burden of maintenance
problems could be made for better or for worse. The idea here is to
bring out a synthesized design that would invariably reduce
maintenance problems.
To carry the citizens along with the agricultural programs, there
should be a ready market and a good one for that matter, for any
agricultural product right where it is produced or where the
potentials for producing them exist. This will help in stimulating the
production, as well as serve as a dual purpose of industrial and
agricultural developments.
