The International arena of politics through history is shaped by what happens at a particular point in time. Different events affects the world in different ways. The Industrial revolution for example saw to the building of big and heavy industries for economic and defense purposes. The second world war introduced the dimension of bipolarity and the many decades of rivalry between two camps who differed in economic and political belief in what came to be known as the cold war. The rivalry between these two camps became the guiding principle of International political and economic relations that encompasses and affected everybody including those who do not belong to the two camps. Virtually every aspect of international political as well as economic relation was affected directly or indirectly by this rivalry. The long years of the rivalry also ensures that an intricate pattern was built in international economic and political relations so that every aspect of it no matter how minute falls into this intricate pattern that had been so tightly knitted that nothing escapes it. However suddenly when there seems to be no softening of the pattern short of an explosive collision, one end • of the pattern collapsed bringing down the whole system. To break the metaphor, the collapsed of the Soviet Union brought an end to the cold war. The suddenness of its collapsed had a recoiled effect on all those policies that had been built on the narrow pattern of bipolar world system. The world appears to be caught unprepared including the arch rival in the cold war the Western allies. A whole new system will now have to emerge from the ruins of the bipolar rivalry. It will now be quite interesting to sit down and watch how mankind is going to build a new pattern in international relations from the ruins of the cold war. The -scenes are as wide ranging as mans everyday interaction. Wherever one picks will provide an interesting insight as what is likely going to be the new pattern of international relations. The Bosnian crisis and the attempt at peace keeping in the new era of unipolar world system by the United Nation offers a tempting start.en_US
